ARISS-Europe Board Elections
According the ARISS-Europe Terms of Reference, Board elections took place in 2015:
- A call for candidatures was circulated to the Member Societies March 2015.
- Candidatures were accepted till the end of May 2015.
- June 4, 2015 four candidates were presented to the Member Societies.
- Till September 1st, 2015, the votes of the Member Societies were collected.
- All four candidates are elected unopposed for a two years term.

ARISS le 1 septembre 2015 à ULVILA en FINLANDE
ARISS contact for school in Ulvila, Finland
An International Space Station contact is planned for Ulvila Upper Secondary School, Finland. The event is scheduled for Tuesday September 1, 2015 at 11.44 UTC, which is 13.44 CEST. This will be a direct radio contact between OR4ISS and OH1F.
The signals from space will be audible in adjacent areas on 145.800MHz FM.
The Ulvila Upper Secondary School is located in western Finland. The school counts approximately 320 students. The age bracket of students is 16 to 19 years on average. The variety of educational opportunities offered at Ulvila Upper Secondary School can provide a basis for the academic and personal growth. The main academic objective is to give the students means for taking part in studies at universities and polytechnics. We provide a large selection courses consisting of regular courses, specialization courses and practice courses. For example, in our school one can study also the basics of Astronomy and Space Physics in optional courses.
Participants will ask as many of the following questions as time allows:
1. What time zone do you use there?
2. What do you do in your free time at the station?
3. If we found life beyond the Earth in the future, would it be right to
disturb its evolution?
4. What is the best experience you’ve had while being astronaut?
5. Is there something that you did not expect to be hard for you, but it is?
6. For how long are you staying in the International Space Station?
7. What kind of food do you eat at ISS?
8. Which is the most interesting project you have been working with on ISS?
9. What is your favorite sight you can see from the space station?
10. Which is the most interesting item you have ever printed with the "Made
in space" 3D-printer?
11. What did you study after high school?
12. What has surprised you positively?
13. What kind of physical condition is required of astronauts?
14. Can you see any manmade structures from the ISS?
15. What do you miss the most from Earth/home?
16. What is something you would want to have with you in the space station
but you can´t have?
17. Does ISS espresso taste different than normal coffee? Or does micro
gravity change the sense of taste?
18. What do you want to say to the young of the present day?
19. Do you have normal showers at ISS or do you have some alternative way to
take care of your personal hygiene?
20. Does your personal world view change when you see the Earth from space
as planet?
ARISS is an international educational outreach program partnering the volunteer support and leadership from AMSAT and IARU societies around the world with the ISS space agencies partners: NASA, Russian Space Agency, ESA, CNES, JAXA, and CSA.
ARISS offers an opportunity for students to experience the excitement of Amateur Radio by talking directly with crewmembers on-board the International Space Station. Teachers, parents and communities see, first hand, how Amateur Radio and crewmembers on ISS can energize youngsters' interest in science, technology, and learning.

La Revue d’Aptitude au Lancement (RAL) s’est déroulée le mardi 18 août 2015 à Kourou et a autorisé les opérations de chronologie pour le Vol Ariane 5 ECA avec EUTELSAT 8 West et Intelsat 34.
Pour son septième lancement de l’année et le quatrième avec une Ariane 5 depuis le Centre Spatial Guyanais, Arianespace mettra en orbite 2 satellites : EUTELSAT 8 West B pour l'opérateur EUTELSAT Communications, et Intelsat 34 pour l'opérateur Intelsat.
Le lancement sera effectué depuis l'Ensemble de Lancement Ariane n° 3 (ELA 3) à Kourou en Guyane française.

On the seventh launch of the year from the Guiana Space center in French Guiana, and the fourth with an Ariane 5, Arianespace will orbit 2 satellites: EUTELSAT 8 West for EUTELSAT, and Intelsat 34 for INTELSAT.
It will be launched from the Ariane 5 launch complex N° 3 (ELA3), in Kourou, French Guiana.

ARISS contact for Scouts Jam in Illinois audible in Europe
An International Space Station contact is planned for Space Jam 9, Rantoul, Illinois, USA. The event is scheduled for Saturday August 8, 2015 at approximately 16.58 UTC (18.58 CEST). This will be a telebridge radio contact between OR4ISS and IK1SLD.
The signals from space will be audible in Europe on 145.800MHz FM.
Greetings to all stations from the participants and volunteers of Space Jam 9 in Rantoul, Illinois. Though primarily a weekend Scouting and STEM education event, we are open to all interested youth. Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts from 24 states have come together in an educational and fun format to learn more about the life skills that will prepare them for the increasingly complex technological future. Training is our theme this year. While it is well known that Scouting teaches pioneering skills like camping and wilderness survival, the new pioneers and wilderness are in outer space and we are working hard at 44 technology oriented Merit Badges and activities, plus some fun things like the Duct Tape Merit Badge. Talking to the astronauts on the ISS is an unforgettable part of the experience at Space Jam and that's next on our list. We will not know for many years whether one of these youths becomes an astronaut themselves but it is certain that they are all part of tomorrow's leaders.
Participants will ask as many of the following questions as time allows:
1. How do you train to sleep in space?
2. What type of engine propulsion will we use to go to Mars?
3. Could we drop containers to the Mars surface but leave the engine in orbit?
4. Would a steam powered train whistle work in space?
5. How long did you train for this mission?
6. Could ribbons be stretched to an Earth orbiting station & used as tracks to reach orbit?
7. Could ribbons be stretched to a Mars orbiting station & used as tracks to reach orbit?
8. If a ship left Mars, traveling 17,500 mph, what is the shortest time it could take to reach Earth.
9. Imagine you are the engineer on a shuttle that goes back and forth between Earth orbit and Mars orbit; what year would it be?
10. Are you still training for future missions?
11. What is your favorite food on the space station?
12. How many bits of space junk does NASA track & how can we reduce the problem?
13. Are there earth-bound disabilities that might be irrelevant in space weightlessness?
14. Is there art on the walls of the ISS or do you see examples of the Arts in space?
15. If we found cave art on Mars what do you imagine it would depict?
16. Are there any musical instruments on the ISS?
17. Every discipline can be an art; from the people who sew the stitches on a space suit to a computer programmer, aren't we all artists when we do our best? 18. The theme for SJ 10 will be the Arts; should STEM education be changed to STEAM?

Lancement VA 224 : Arianespace a mis en orbite deux satellites géostationnaires, l’un pour des services de télécommunications et l’autre pour la météorologie
Arianespace a lancé avec succès deux satellites géostationnaires : Star One C4 pour l’opérateur privé Embratel Star One, première société de communications par satellites en Amérique du Sud, et MSG-4 pour l’opérateur EUMETSAT, agence européenne dédiée à la surveillance du temps, du climat et de l’environnement.
Ce 3ème lancement Ariane 5 de l’année a eu lieu le 15 juillet à 18h42 (heure de Kourou) depuis le Centre Spatial Guyanais (CSG). Il est emblématique de la double mission d’Arianespace : garantir à l’Europe un accès indépendant à l’espace et s’imposer comme un acteur de référence sur le marché du transport spatial commercial.
30 ans de succès partagés avec Embratel Star One
Basé au Brésil, Embratel Star One est le premier opérateur latino-américain de communications par satellites. Construit par Space Systems/Loral (SSL), Star One C4 est le 10ème satellite de la société. Il augmentera sa capacité en matière de services de télécommunications, de télédiffusion et d’internet pour le Brésil, les autres pays d’Amérique du Sud, le Mexique et les Etats-Unis. Arianespace et Embratel Star One collaborent avec succès depuis 30 ans, Arianespace ayant lancé tous les satellites d’Embratel Star One. Par ailleurs, avec Star One C4, SSL et Arianespace fêtent leur 50ème mission commune vers l’orbite de transfert géostationnaire. Le carnet de commandes d’Arianespace comprend encore 14 satellites construits par SSL.
Arianespace et EUMETSAT au service d’une vie meilleure sur terre, grâce à l’espace
Construit par Thales Alenia Space, le satellite MSG-4 poursuivra la mission commune des satellites météorologiques de Seconde Génération d’EUMETSAT, agence européenne dédiée à la surveillance du temps, du climat et de l’environnement. Destinés principalement à l'Europe, les services d’observation météorologique de MSG-4 s'étendront à l'Afrique (y compris l'île de la Réunion), l'Océan Atlantique et l'Est de l'Amérique du sud. Le partenariat d’Arianespace et d’EUMETSAT au service des citoyens européens remonte à 1981, MSG-4 étant le 10ème satellite Meteosat dont le lancement a été confié à Arianespace.
Quelques instants après l’annonce de l’injection en orbite des deux satellites, Stéphane Israël, Président Directeur Général d’Arianespace, a déclaré : « Arianespace est fière d’avoir mené à bien la double mission de ce soir : d’une part au service d’un opérateur privé, Embratel Star One, dont le satellite Star One C4 renforcera la position sur le continent américain, et d’autre part au service de l’agence européenne EUMETSAT, qui va ainsi pouvoir mettre en service son quatrième et dernier satellite de Seconde Génération, MSG-4. VA224: Arianespace launches two geostationary satellites, for telecom services and meteorology
Arianespace has successfully launched two geostationary satellites: Star One C4 for the private operator Embratel Star One, the leading satellite communications company in South America, and MSG-4 for EUMETSAT, the European organization dedicated to weather, climate and environmental monitoring.
The third Ariane 5 launch of the year took place on July 15 at 6:42 pm local time in Kourou, French Guiana, from the Guiana Space Center (CSG). It clearly illustrates Arianespace's dual responsibility: to guarantee independent access to space for Europe, and to establish its position as a benchmark in the commercial launch services market.
30 years of joint success with Embratel Star One
The Brazil-based Embratel Star One is the leading satcom operator in South America. Star One C4, built by Space Systems/Loral (SSL), is the company's tenth satellite. It will increase Embratel Star One's telecom, broadcast and Internet service capacity in Brazil, other South American countries, Mexico and the United States. Arianespace and Embratel Star One have teamed up successfully for the last 30 years, with Arianespace launching all of the company's satellites.
With Star One C4, Arianespace and SSL celebrate their 50th joint mission to geostationary transfer orbit (GTO). Arianespace's current launch manifest includes 14 more SSL-built satellites to be launched.
Arianespace and EUMETSAT team up to improve life on Earth
Built by Thales Alenia Space, the MSG-4 satellite will carry on the mission assigned to EUMETSAT's Second Generation satellites. EUMETSAT is the European Meteorological Satellite organization, dedicated to monitoring weather, climate and environmental conditions. Its meteorological observation services, primarily intended for Europe, will also extend to encompass Africa (including Reunion Island), the Atlantic Ocean and the eastern part of South America.
The partnership between Arianespace and EUMETSAT, serving all European citizens, reaches back to 1981; MSG-4 is the tenth Meteosat satellite to be launched by Arianespace.
Shortly after the announcement that the two satellites had been injected into orbit, Arianespace Chairman and CEO Stéphane Israël said: "Arianespace is very proud of having successfully completed this evening's dual launch, orbiting the Star One C4 satellite for the private operator Embratel Star One, to bolster its position in the Americas; and the MSG-4 satellite for the European organization EUMETSAT, which will be able to commission the fourth and last of its second-generation satellites. Arianespace a lancé avec succès deux satellites géostationnaires : Star One C4 pour l’opérateur privé Embratel Star One, première société de communications par satellites en Amérique du Sud, et MSG-4 pour l’opérateur EUMETSAT, agence européenne dédiée à la surveillance du temps, du climat et de l’environnement.
Ce 3ème lancement Ariane 5 de l’année a eu lieu le 15 juillet à 18h42 (heure de Kourou) depuis le Centre Spatial Guyanais (CSG). Il est emblématique de la double mission d’Arianespace : garantir à l’Europe un accès indépendant à l’espace et s’imposer comme un acteur de référence sur le marché du transport spatial commercial.

Basé au Brésil, Embratel Star One est le premier opérateur latino-américain de communications par satellites. Construit par Space Systems/Loral (SSL), Star One C4 est le 10ème satellite de la société. Il augmentera sa capacité en matière de services de télécommunications, de télédiffusion et d’internet pour le Brésil, les autres pays d’Amérique du Sud, le Mexique et les Etats-Unis. Arianespace et Embratel Star One collaborent avec succès depuis 30 ans, Arianespace ayant lancé tous les satellites d’Embratel Star One. Par ailleurs, avec Star One C4, SSL et Arianespace fêtent leur 50ème mission commune vers l’orbite de transfert géostationnaire. de news) d’origine indéterminée et malgré nos recherches nous n’avons pas
pu les corriger.
Le site de RAF est redirigé provisoirement chez notre partenaire l’ANRPFD
Nous nous excusons pour ces dysfonctionnements indépendants de notre
volonté.
Nous faisons le maximum pour réduire les délais.
Il était prévu un changement d’hébergement pour ce weekend.
(c'était une information publiée dans la revue S25 sur ce sujet car nous
avions prévu des difficultés de transfert).
Pourquoi un transfert ? tout simplement pour avoir un hébergeur pro.
En effet, rançon du succès, le volume devenait énorme !!!
