ARISS contact planned with Indiana Area School District, Indiana, PA
An ARISS educational radio contact is planned with Indiana Area School District, Indiana County, Pennsylvania. The event is scheduled Friday October 17, 2014 at 16:41:45 UTC, which is 18.42 CEST. It will be a telebridge contact, operated by IK1SLD.
Downlink signals will be audible in Europe on 145.800 MHz narrowband FM.
Moreover, the contact will be broadcast on EchoLink AMSAT (node 101 377) and JK1ZRW (node 277 208) Conference servers, as well as on IRLP Discovery Reflector 9010.
School inrformation:
Indiana, Pennsylvania is a rural town with a population of 32,000 that is situated sixty miles northeast of Pittsburgh. Our residents enjoy the convenient proximity to a major city, as well as the community-feel and lifestyle of a small town. The Indiana Area School District has provided a dynamic high-quality educational program for over 170 years. Our four K-5 elementary schools, one 6-8 junior high school and one 9-12 senior high school serve 2800 students district wide.
In addition to distinguished academic achievement, our students’ activities include fundraising for a variety of charitable causes, school and community leadership, as well as setting new standards for excellence in both academic and athletics competitions. In fact, we currently boast two National Merit Scholarship semi-finalists and a third honoree. We are proud of our student’s accomplishments!
Our dynamic school programs are part of the building blocks for student success. 4. Dave: Does being weightless have any long-term effects on the human body?
5. Laura: When do you think we will have the technology for astronauts to travel farther in space?
6. Andre: Which of the research projects that you are working on right now, has the most scientific potential?
7. Axel: Who has the most control over the spacecraft? The astronauts, stabilization auto-pilot, or mission control?
8. Breanna: What is the scariest thing that has ever happened to you in space?
9. Maddie Redhead-Kriston: Are space suits comfortable?
10. Erica: How do you help your families deal with the dangers of your job?
11. Isabelle: What is the most common misconception teenagers may have about space?
12. Brandon: Do you have any anxiety because you are nowhere near the safety of Earth?
13. Nathan: What college, and what major, would you recommend for someone to become an astronaut?
14. Shaelyn: What is the most interesting, or strangest, thing you have seen in the space station?
15. Tavan: What surprised you the most when you first arrived in space?
16. Maddie Todd: Do you foresee a day when space colonies will be real?
ARISS is an international educational outreach program partnering the participating space agencies, NASA, Russian Space Agency, ESA, CNES, JAXA, and CSA, with the AMSAT and IARU organizations from participating countries.
ARISS offers an opportunity for students to experience the excitement of Amateur Radio by talking directly with crewmembers onboard the International Space Station.
Teachers, parents and communities see, first hand, how Amateur Radio and crewmembers on ISS can energize youngsters' interest in science, technology and learning.

Le RAF vous communique : revue S39
Bonjour à toutes et tous
J'ai eu le plaisir de rencontrer plusieurs lecteurs, YL et OM lors de mon
déplacement au CDXC.
Et, à cette occasion, ( ce ne fut pas ''facile'' même pour un démocrate,
progressiste ouvert au dialogue ), j'ai abordé quelques sujets avec le
Président du REF.
C'est un progrès, infime, mais dans l'intérêt de la communauté des
radioamateurs.
Nous avons modifié de 3 à 2, les colonnes de textes pour améliorer la
lecture.
Réunion de l'IARU à Varna, il y a un changement de Président, c'est
maintenant G3BJ, reste à connaître son programme ...
F3CJ, malgré les grèves est arrivé au Népal
et toutes les nouvelles et rubriques habituelles

La Revue d’Aptitude au Lancement (RAL) s’est déroulée le mardi 9 septembre 2014 à Kourou et a autorisé les opérations de chronologie pour le Vol Ariane 5 ECA avec MEASAT-3b et OPTUS 10.
Pour son quatrième lancement Ariane 5 de l’année, Arianespace mettra en orbite deux satellites de télécommunications, MEASAT-3b pour l’opérateur malaisien MEASAT et OPTUS 10 pour l’opérateur australien OPTUS.
Avec 64% du marché commercial de cette région, Arianespace s’impose comme la société de service de lancement de référence pour les constructeurs et opérateurs de la zone Asie-Pacifique.

THE LAUNCH READINESS REVIEW (RAL) took place in Kourou on Tuesday September 9, 2014 and authorized count-down operations for the MEASAT-3b & OPTUS 10 launch.
On the fourth Ariane 5 launch of the year, Arianespace will orbit two telecommunications satellites : MEASAT-3b for the Malaysian-based operator MEASAT and OPTUS 10 for the Australian operator OPTUS.
With 64% of the commercial satellite launch market in the region, Arianespace clearly sets the standard for launch services in the Asia-Pacific, working for both manufacturers and operators. Since being founded in 1980, Arianespace has launched two-thirds of the Asia-Pacific region’s commercial geostationary telecommunications satellites.
It will be launched from the Ariane launch complex N° 3 (ELA3), in Kourou, French Guiana.

ARIANESPACE FLIGHT VA218 / MEASAT-3b & OPTUS 10
THE LAUNCH READINESS REVIEW (RAL) took place in Kourou on Tuesday September 9, 2014 and authorized count-down operations for the MEASAT-3b & OPTUS 10 launch.
On the fourth Ariane 5 launch of the year, Arianespace will orbit two telecommunications satellites : MEASAT-3b for the Malaysian-based operator MEASAT and OPTUS 10 for the Australian operator OPTUS.
With 64% of the commercial satellite launch market in the region, Arianespace clearly sets the standard for launch services in the Asia-Pacific, working for both manufacturers and operators. Since being founded in 1980, Arianespace has launched two-thirds of the Asia-Pacific region’s commercial geostationary telecommunications satellites.
It will be launched from the Ariane launch complex N° 3 (ELA3), in Kourou, French Guiana.

ARISS contact planned with Gymnasium Siegburg, Germany
An ARISS educational radio contact is planned with Gymnasium Siegburg, Germany. The event is scheduled Monday September 1st, 2014 at 13.12.45 UTC, which is 15.12.54 CEST. It will be a direct contact, operated by DN6KW.
Downlink signals will be audible in Europe on 145.800 MHz narrowband FM.
The Ham Video transmitter will possibly be tested during this contact.
School presentation:
Our school is a whole-day (8 AM - 4 PM) high school and college (1,000 students, 100 staff) that prepares students for the final examination after 8 years studies. The school, situated close to the centre of Siegburg, sits in the middle of a park like campus.
We teach the languages traditionally taught in Germany, and alongside offer our students ABIBAC, a bi-lingual language curriculum, which opens the possibility of getting the French Baccalaureate, in addition to the German Abitur. These students acquire admission to not only German, but also to French universities. Some subjects are also taught in English.
Both our world and our society and, thus, education, are subject to constant change.
Three important pillars, however, are considered to be permanent and accordingly, make Gymnasium Siegburg Alleestraße a reliable partner:
- Educational and academic qualities and commitment to ethical values
- Integration of all groups and elements that constitute school life
- Focus on health and wellbeing of students and staff
In addition to our foreign language profile we encourage and support musically interested students in special classes in which it is obligatory for all members to play an instrument. Students may later opt for music as their major subject.
A very wide range of natural sciences completes our school profile.
For several years now our school has been in contact with the University of Bonn working on a project in space science and remote sensing, sponsored by DLR (German Aerospace Centre) and BMWi (Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology). The project allows our junior and senior students to participate in an analysis of data as well as in a satellite surveying remote sensing with reference to scientific problems.
For this reason, our school community is very pleased and proud to have been selected for the live call in September with Dr. Alexander Gerst on the ISS.
The space conversation will be conducted in German.
Students will ask as many of following questions as time allows:

ARISS is an international educational outreach program partnering the participating space agencies, NASA, Russian Space Agency, ESA, CNES, JAXA, and CSA, with the AMSAT and IARU organizations from participating countries.
ARISS offers an opportunity for students to experience the excitement of Amateur Radio by talking directly with crewmembers onboard the International Space Station. Teachers, parents and communities see, first hand, how Amateur Radio and crewmembers on ISS can energize youngsters' interest in science, technology and learning.
